My Favorite Food Blogs
I have been writing Italy in SF for a little bit over a year now, and I have been blessed to find along the way some amazing, passionate food bloggers along the way. The internet is a crazy place, filled with all sort of content, and finding the information you want to read becomes harder and harder every day. I have found some amazing “foodies”, some with a substantial following, some pretty much unknown, but all with a lot of passion for their foods and a generous attitude that brings them to share their pictures, their recipes, and their knowledge on food. I want to take a moment to aknowledge their effort- and I hope you will enjoy their blogs as well!
The Big Shots
Cooking with Amy- Amy Sherman has been a food blogger since the beginning of blogging. She is a book writer, a recipe developer, an insider of the Bay Area food industry and a wonderful resource for pretty much everything! You want to know if there’s a new good jam around? Check on Amy’s blog. Are you wondering what’s the best tea? Ask Amy. Looking for the ultimate appetizer? Amy’s got it. Amy is the answer to everything!
~the tablehopper~ Marcia Gagliardi is the incarnation of the Bay Area food know-how. Not only she has the best restaurant recommendations, but she also publishes weekly the most intriguing, informative, and delicious e-column. The ins and outs of the restaurant industry in the city (and sometimes beyond) only happens on Marcia’s watch.
Chez Pim- Pim is the quintessential food blogger. Glamorous, jetsetting, and always “in”, Chez Pim is the place to go for your up-to-the minute news, recipes and events!
Endless Simmer- Snarky, entertaining, funny, and one of my favorite reads!
The Local Bloggers
Becks and Posh- No, seriously, this is not about celebrities! Despite not being a food industry professional, Sam is a legend in her own good. Her quintessentially locavore spin, the wonderful pictures, the ideas behind her recipes- all about Sam makes you feel good!
GastronoMichael- Very few people know Mike’s blog. However, very rarely will you come across someone who is more dedicated, more passionate, and more detailed in his food adventures!! Mike was my fellow table partner for the Head to Tail dinner at Incanto, and hopefully of many more culinary ventures in days to come!
No Salad as a Meal- when I first found Haas’ blog, it wasn’t the fabulous photography, the wonderful reviews, the insightful comment to draw me to his feed. It was this quote explaining the blog’s name. I could not stop laughing!
One of the best places to eat traditional French fare in Paris is Brasserie Lipp. The restaurant has been around since 1880 and features a beautifully decorated art nouveau dining room, often filled with loyal habitués. On the all-French menu, you will find classics like cassoulet, blanquette de veau and baba au rhum; but only one thing in English. At the very top of the page, printed in red, all caps, is the announcement: “No salad as a meal”
Married with Dinner- I love this couple’s insight on the San Francisco Bay Area food scene. Anita and her husband do a fantastic job showcasing the local-sustainable-organic movement in their own everyday lives. It is possible, and it is within reach. Inspiring.
Food Wishes Video Recipes- doesn’t really matter that Chef John is, in fact, local to the Bay Area. His quick and easy recipes and the detailed videos make it worth your time to subscribe to his feed!
Briciole- Simona is a fellow Italian who runs a blog with recipes and kitchen adventures. She makes her own cheese (and that, in my book, grants you super-hero status!) and she explores seasonal ingredients, all with a bit of an Italian spin. Just my cup of tea!
Kitchen Gadget Girl- A detailed account of weekly meals, fabulous recipes, and daily finds of Gudrun, the busiest blogger in town!
More Friends Around the World
The Pink Peppercorn- Gail is a friend blogger in Canada. Her photography is evolving from good to impressive, and so are her recipes!
Smitten Kitchen- If there is someone who can convert me to baking, Deb is it!
Goldilocks Finds Manhattan- Ulla writes a fine blog, with fine photography and fun bits of farm life.
Bleeding Espresso- Michelle is an American expat living in Calabria. Her writings and recipes are a wonderful showcase of life in Italy.
Mamaliga’- Gabi is a Romanian expat, finding his way around good food in Chicago. Now, he’s the kind of guy who makes his own maple syrup. WOW.
The Hungy Mouse- If you ever need recommendations for the Boston area, ask Jessie- she did miracles for me! Also, in case you ever wanted a step-by-step veal flank guide, I think you need to read her blog!
I read many, many more blogs daily. I use Google Reader- if you’d like to share with me, leave your gmail account in the comments for me to share my favorites. also, if you have reccomendations for Italian places I have not reviewed, please leave me a note. I have the feeling I am running out of good, honest, tasty Italian joints here… Grazie!

Vanessa,
CIAO!
That is so sweet! Thank you so much! Love your blog too, I want to visit SF just to taste all your finds!
What a great site! I moved to Berkeley from Brooklyn a few months ago, and have been on a crusade to find Italian food in the Bay Area that can rival that of my old Italian neighboorhood in NYC. I really love your blog, and can’t wait to read more.
Thank you so much, Vanessa, for including me in your shortlist. And thanks for the pointers: I will check out the others you mention that I don’t know.
