Pizzetta 211, San Francisco
Pizzetta is Italian for “little pizza”. However, the only thing that is really small at Pizzetta is the venue: four tables in a tiny tiny indoor space shared with the large pizza oven and kitchen. Nothing else is small: not the lines to get in at night or during the weekends, not the flavors of these delicious pizze, not even the “attitude” that accompanies them when you show up at 7pm on a Saturday only to hear that “they ran out of dough”, and so they’re closing down. On top of this, Pizzetta is lost in the middle of the outer Richmond, not very close to anything else in the city- unless you happen to live in the nieghborhood. All of this is inconvenient, but quite honestly worth the trouble, as this is one of the best pizzas in the city.
Despite not having a wood burning oven, pizza at Pizzetta is quite impressive. Crusty and chewy, a little burned on the edges, the dough is just a dream. The toppings are quite the show stealer, too: the tomato in my Margherita was a tad sweet and not acidic, a perfect complement to the fresh and milky mozzarella flavor. A delicate non-pesto made only of basil topped the Margherita, making for a flag-worthy color palette! We also tried a white pizza made with Fiore Sardo (a DOP pecorino cheese from Sardinia), rosemary and pine nuts, another hit!
Although pizza is the star here, I was quite pleased that we chose the cannellini beans and artichoke special started- not only did it look really pretty, but it was delicious! The beans complemented the flavor of the artichokes wonderfully, and the extra virgin olive oil that drizzled the dish was fresh and tasty!
Pizzetta has weird hours of operations. While they do not have a website, which is a personal pet-peeves of mine!, they publish their official hours and special events… on their own windows! That’s how I learned that Monday night is homemade sausage night, andthat during the week they open at “noonish”…

I agree with your choices of pizza topping. I am particularly intrigued by the fiore sardo, rosemary and pine nuts.
This looks like a great spot and worth going out of the way to find.
All the Italian food looks so amazing. I wonder if you have better Italian food in SF! I want to make that been and artichoke salad!
This is an amazing little restaurant, I lived in Florence, Italy and missed the pizza I had enjoyed there UNTIL I found Pizzetta
