The Slow Food Nation Chronicles

When good foodies die, they end up at Slow Food Nation. The Civic Center has never been this pretty, with the Slow on the Go food stands, the Victory Garden (Mayor Newsom just announced it to stay in place till the general election!) and the farmers who brought each their best product to San Francisco. The Taste Pavilion was a wonderful showcase of American artisans, bringing to the table their precious products for the pleasure of our palates- and the design was amazing! Only reclaimed materials were used to set up shop inside the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason, and the results were quite impressive. My favorites were the Fish Stand and the Chutney and Pickles’.

Here’s my photographic summary of the event. For more pictures please see my Flickr photostream!

Slow Food Nation walks the talk!

The Native Food stand

Mortadella and Sauerkraut: Would I have thought of it? No! Was it good? DELICIOUS!

Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food, tells it all to Mayor Newsom! (See his scared expression? Petrini speaks no English whatsoever, and his translators are carefully to… ehm, polish!!)

The Fish Stand, possibly my favorite, with its make-believe jellyfish…

The roof at the Spirit Stand called for pictures!

The Chutney and Pickles stand, another beauty with a roof made of jar lids!

My own small hall of fame: with Michael Pollan…

…and with Carlo Petrini!

  2. Nice picture I took of you and Michael! But not as good as that Carlo one… :)

  3. It was so nice to meet you at Slow Food Nation. And I concur wholeheartedly about the mortadella topped with sauerkraut. It was the first thing I ate at the Taste Pavilions, and it definitely left a lasting impression. I wish I could have had two! ;)
