Where to Buy Prosciutto
“Where to” is a column whose purpose is to summarize the content of many posts by product. Where can you buy Parmigiano? And where to eat the best gelato? Find out here!

Prosciutto, the best pig cut, the most incredible cured meat, the prized food whose roots are found back in Roman times… but where to buy it in San Francisco and beyond? After years of debate, we have come to these conclusions…
Best: Costco. This is the best value for the money: Costco sells a 12oz package (or 3 etti e mezzo, for you metric Italians!) for a little over $12. Sure it’s pre-sliced, but it’s marked with the Parma crown, and it’s the best value for money around. Also, don’t believe the package fine print: the prosciutto will preserve just fine if you have cure to cover the slices remaining in the package with the film provided, and seal the whole thing in a ziplock…
Second Best: well, for the real experience, you will want sliced-to-order prosciutto. I like the prosciutto at Cosentino’s as they carry both San Daniele and Parma, and more importantly their staff is knowledgeable enough to always know how to slice it. I haven’t tried the skills of the staff at the following places, but they carry prosciutto as well:

Costa un occhio della testa pero’…
I looove the prosciuto from Costco! Thanks for the tip guys! We had a family and friends get together recently, all newcomers to the cured pork, and it was a big success soon to be re-do!!!
The Costco one “outperform” the competitors from Wholefoods and B.F. meeting the criteria of the real cured meat! Not too sweet and moist , just enough!
Thank you again guys! Keep up with the good job!
