La Pizzeria, Campbell
La Pizzeria is just what it says it is- a pizza place. With a selection of over 20 pizzas on the menu, and the way the crust tastes once it comes out of the wood burning oven, it established itself as the place where to eat pizza “like at home”. It shouldn’t be a surprise, then, that all the new immigrants- mostly freshly minted software engineers who have just moved to California from Italy, made it a favorite hang out spot. You will hear more Italian than English, and the owners, Pino and Giovanni, make sure to network around the tables to keep the tradition alive.
The pizza at La Pizzeria is a hit. It’s the like you eat it in Italy- the crust is right, the taste is right, everything duplicates the Italian experience! Including the extensive list of pizzas: Capricciosa, Quattro Stagioni, Marinara- all included in this fun menu. Pick your favorite ingredients: in Italy there’s a pizza that goes by that name! It’s almost as if it was a build-your-own-pizza menu, with the basic toppings (artichokes, prosciutto cotto, prosciutto crudo, mushrooms, mozzarella, anchovies, sausage, and many more) arranged to create different tastes and different dishes. Since each pizza is individual and made to order, it is easy for Giuseppe to create just the one you want.
Giuseppe, a native of Bellagio on Lake Como, spent a few months in Naples to learn the trade from the best, the Neapolitans pizza makers. All I can say is- he learned well: the taste of each pie is as authentic as it gets in the Bay Area! Pino and Giuseppe are pizza purists, and their menu reflects what you’d find in your average pizzeria in Italy. How refreshing to see the familiar names on the menu, and to taste pizza the way we grew up with! Downtown Campbell is the place to be for the original- many other pizzerias in the Bay Area are pretty good- but this is by far my favorite!
